Social/Fundraising

Like any other volunteer organisation, the Scotland Island Rural Fire Brigade incurs the usual running expenses for an organisation including telephone and internet bills as well as the cost of consumables such as food for our firefighters. By fundraising, we keep the Brigade running and ensure we have the most up-to-date equipment to assist in our community role of saving lives and property.
To do this, we rely on donations, raffle ticket sales and support from the community at our fundraising events.  These events include:
THE FIREMAN'S BALL
First held in 2006 and again in 2007 and fast becoming the premier event on the Island, the Fireman's Ball is held at the end of the Fire Season (end March) and is a chance for members and the community to enjoy a glamourous night out on the Island.  It is a Black Tie evening, with food from top local caterers and music from fabulous Lionel Robinson & The Dukes of Lounge.  The Station is transformed into a "magical ballroom" with a red carpet entry for all guests and a fully licensed bar to cater for all tastes.
CHRISTMAS IN JULY
An old favourite, our annual Christmas in July dinner features a sit-down roast Christmas dinner and pudding, a visit from Santa and music from local band, Joe's Garage.  The food is all prepared and cooked by members of the Brigade and is served by our band of "elves" (children of members).  A licensed bar is available.
MELBOURNE CUP DAY
Come & watch the race that stops the nation on our HUGE screens.  Join in the sweeps and have a glass of bubbly from our licensed bar.  Wear your best hat and see if you win a prize in the Hat Parade!  From 2pm every Melbourne Cup day, at the Station.  $5 per head (children free) including snacks & nibblies.
SHORTS FROM THE SHED
The inaugural Shorts from the Shed event was held in October 2006 as part of the Scotland Island Festival.  A hugely successful event, it included two screenings of the moving film, Kanyini, with appearances by Bob Randall (traditional listed owner of Uluru and star of the film) and Melanie Hogan (director).  Other nights included short films submitted for event from Australia and all over the world, including a Childrens film afternoon and a night of films made by local Scotland Islanders and West Pittwater residents.
